German-to-English translations
The quality of your English matters. A lot.
Your company’s image is shaped by every sentence you write. When your customers, or potential customers, read what you have written — they are judging you. What is your English communication telling them about your brand values, your competence, your attention to detail?
Translators often seem to miss this point. Yes, they may translate the content accurately, but if they don’t adapt the tone or “voice” to an English-speaking audience, the resulting text seems stiff and unnatural. Would you want to do business with a company that communicates with you in language that is dull and lifeless? Or worse: with a company that doesn't appear to care that the English is not very good? I wouldn’t.
What you have to say is obviously important, and it must be translated correctly. But how you say it is just as important.
I would like to be your translator.
My name is Woody Wade. As your translator, my role is to make sure that in the English text I deliver to you, the “what” and the “how” are both perfect. Here’s why you should allow me that opportunity:
First, I can understand your business.
I am the only German-to-English translator in Switzerland with an MBA from Harvard Business School and 25 years’ experience in marketing. I’ve worked for a number of leading Swiss-based organizations, and the business world is a terrain I know. I’m confident that I will understand the objectives of your document — and will be able to express your German text in just the right English for the situation.
I’m experienced.
I’ve translated about 4,000 pages of business documents into English, from promotional materials, speeches, presentation slides and client correspondence to press releases, mission statements, client surveys, contracts — you name it. Even menus, slogans, and tweets. My clients include some of Switzerland’s most highly regarded names in banking and luxury tourism, for example, as well as many smaller organizations such as startups, foundations, and galleries. What all these clients have in common is that they want to win over an English-speaking audience — and they know that their own customers are very demanding. They expect perfect execution. That is why they come to me.
I have an ear for the music of English.
I am always writing, re-writing, improving… getting the English just right. It’s how my day is spent, and I love it. I’ve not only produced English versions of uncountable brochures, articles, letters, ads, websites… but I’m also the author of four books (not translations): one is a fantasy about the future of the travel business, two are in the humor genre, and one is a book on strategy published by Wiley, America’s largest business publisher. It became an Amazon best seller. Good, clear writing is not only important to me; it’s in my DNA.
My German is ALSO pretty good.
I have learned that you do not have to speak German like a native to be a good English translator. However, your passive knowledge of the language must be excellent. I think mine is, thanks to a university degree in German and more than 30 years’ living, studying, and working in Switzerland and Germany.
I’m fast.
I can’t always promise lightning-fast delivery, but 90% of the time, my clients get their English translation back from me sooner than they expected.
What to do now.
